I posted pictures in the photo gallery.

I have a 4 yo pond and everything has gone great! Stocked with LMB, BG and CC. I hand feed once a day with Optimal Bluegill pellets. The pond is approximately 3/4 acre, aerated . I have a good percentage of LMB and BG above the 100 percentile in RW.
I found this 2.15 lb BG today swimming head downward and slow. It appears to have some sort of fungus. Anyone able to help me out with a diagnosis? So far only 1 found but I have had 5 or 6 floaters and passed them off as deeply hooked from the grandkids fishing. Definitely want to nip this in the bud! Is it contagious? Thanks to all!

No idea. Bump for you.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Can you post pics ?

Fungus can be a symptom (result) and not be the cause of issues.

If it's truly a fungus, that happens about 99% of the time due to a couple of things.. Mishandling or water quality issues. The common element in many cases (not all) is stress, which directly affects the immune system.
Rapid changes in weather (temperature swings), heavy fishing pressure, massive inflow, sudden turbidity..

I had a bad bout of fungus in October 2017 when a sudden temp drop hit my spawning CNBG. Lost almost all the large ones, set me back two years.

Bob Lusk said that you could try adding an antibacterial from a farm/feed store to your food pellets. Mix with a small bottle of Karo syrup, drip & mix with your feed. No guarantees, but it works sometimes. Wish I'd known!

Well said and very common ! Especially a stress issue which can be water quality , poor condition , overcrowding , poor nutrition , spawning and others.

Thanks for the reply’s! I haven’t been online due to work but wanted to check back in. I’m not sure it’s a fungus but I posted some pictures in the gallery. I’m not sure how to get them posted in this thread. I’ve only found 1 BG with this issue so far. I’m thinking it may be just a sick fish! All other fish seem to be doing ok. I may have increased my deep aeration too quickly which may have caused a problem. So far everything seems ok!
BG and LMB are growing great! 4 years in from stocking and largest bass caught weighed 4.6 lb., largest BG 2.5 lb. I try to keep an eye on things and just get a little nervous when a problem arises. Great information on this site!
Thanks to all!
