Has anyone used plywood or particle board in fish building a fish structure? We’re currently in the process of building our house and the general contractor has just dumpsters full of leftover pieces of plywood particleboard 1x4s 2x4s....so I’m thinking of just grabbing a ton of it and start throwing some stuff together for structure similar to what wooden pallets do.

Unless people tell me that the wood breaks down in a year.

Particle board will quickly fall apart when wet.

Plywood will de-laminate - maybe not marine plywood, but why would your contractor be using it?

Someone may know if there are any worries wrt the glues in plywood or OSB.

I am aware of the amount of waste involved in typical central Ohio home construction. I built a loft and enclosed a workshop inside a barn with the waste from a house my MIL built.

Plywood with exterior glue will withstand water but as Theo aptly noted particle board will fall apart when under water. Pallet materials will probably last longer under water than the particle board, OSB, and regular house plywood. You could easily be wasting time making underwater structure using your scrap house plywood.

Thank you, there are a lot of 1x4s, I guess I don’t know what they are treated with, maybe safe to stick with the pallets I know are safe.
