Hey i am wondering what is the best way to take water temperature? Is it from the shore or get out in the water and take it from a boat. My dad owns a 2acer pond.

Ideally, take it from shallow to deep. Shallow temps will vary a lot from day to day, depending upon weather, deeper temps not so much.

When it gets hot, you can discover where the thermocline is, which is the deepest fish will go to seek cooler water with adequate oxygen. Usually in the 7 to 9 foot range, depending.

I take my readings from the suface off of my dock making sure the water isn't shaded, then use my paddle wheel to get readings from the center of the pond.
