Hey guys, I am sinking this log for some structure and it prompted me to ask a question about moving water. This maple log is a victim of a windstorm from last Nov so it has dried some giving it more buoyancy so I'm attaching 8 cinder blocks. It will be in about 3' of water with hopes that the highest branch will break the surface. Couldn't turn it into firewood because it just seemed to perfect for fish smile

With that said, it is also near my emergency overflow. I have yet to have a rain event that has even come close to needing the overflow, but want to prepare. I believe I've been told or read (probably on Pond Boss) that most of the movement of flowing water is in the top 1-2' and that the fish will likely hunker down in deeper water when the surface water is moving fast. Am I correct in believing that? Do you have any concerns that I might be attracting fish to an area where they could easily be flushed away?

That’s also my belief

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Well I'm not sure what happened at my 2 acre pond when Texas got the huge floods a few months back. I had hundreds of cnbg of all sizes ended up on the ground by way of a 20 ft. wide dirt spillway!!! I admit most were 1-2 inch long but probably 50 were 4-6 inch. They had 11 foot of water they could have gone to.
