Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Controlling unwanted plants grass carp for coontail??

I'm looking for advice on how many grass carp to stock try and reduce a heavy coontail population. The pond is 5.5 acres and about 75% if it contains Coontail. I've read several articles and each has given different stocking rates and different food preferences for grass carp. I was hoping someone could clear things up for me.

This is from the Texas A&M website.

"Grass carp will seldom control aquatic vegetation the first year they are stocked. They will consume coontail. Grass carp stocking rates to control coontail are usually in the range of 7 to 15 per surface acre."

I would think that you need to stock on the high side of that recommendation. With that much coverage it may take a few years to clean most of it out.

Coontail is high on the list.

I will never understand the gastromical preference of grass carp. didn't anyone tell them the plants they prefer are junk???
