Hi all, we are getting a lot (maybe 4 inches) of cold rain. My question is should I run my bottom aeration during this? This is going to over flow my pond out my top overflow pipe. I dont have a bottom suction drain. Originally I was going to run it and keep things mixed the best I could to help flush out any of the water but now the temps are 50 and the rain is cold. My pond is upper 60s.
Will this cool the pond appreciably to worry about. I am right at 1 acre with a max depth of 17 feet.
Thanks
Dave

How old is the pond ?

If you want to flush out old bottom water then keep aerating. If you will have much plant/dirt ect washing in then keep aerating. Aerating will slow down the whole pond cooling process and will help keep the top water warmer (lower depthes may cool a little. Abrupt whole pond cooling is not good for fish and nither is cold water influx that can kill offf plankton activity. So it depends on your situation.

the old depends answer... Ha I joke.
Thanks for the input. The long of the short is the pond was dug about 8 years ago and I fought a leak that dropped it to about half its size and depth very very quickly so most of its life it was low. I have that slowed to 3/8 inch a day so it has been "full" for a year. I started the Aeration earlier this spring and have very green water that was I believe FA, (pictures are on the controlling plants pages.) So I would like to flush it as it comes in that is why I started aerating during this event. I wont have much dirt coming in.
I will keep it going and watch it. I am hoping for some clearing just because I think it is all FA that is getting a strong hold.
Thanks again
Dave

I would run it. The type of fish were talking about are used to some water temp fluctuations now if your dealing with trout that could be a different kind of monster those fish are picky. These are not your normal aquarium fish. I always keep mine going through that kind of rain to help keep things mixed up good and I have not had any issues as of yet.
