Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Controlling unwanted plants Ricciocarpus... is it Noxious?

I've seen it in a couple of ponds and lakes, and it looks harmless. The worst infestation I have seen was a band of it a few inches wide floating around the banks. Does it get out of control?

I think this specimen is purple-fringed riccia. Each leaf is about the size of a quarter.

There doesn't seem to be any negative reports. When you look up "duckweed" or "water meal", your search will always turn up a lot of R-rated expletives. So far in all my searching, I haven't uncovered a single negative remark on purple fringed riccia. it seems to be either scarce or innocuous. In fact, I rather like what I have seen of it.

Some area ponds have riccia, so I know it's just a matter of time until the Great Bird brings the spores down on me.

Here is another one. I am not finding much either. It is not noted in either TAMU or Florida's aquatic plants.

The aquarium bosses are actually cultiviating the stuff. It must be nice to be able to remove all your weed overgrowth in 5 minutes.
