Got a question about about acre foot coverage for chemicals? To make it easy lets just say the surface area is 1 acre and the sides are staight down, i know with sloping sides it will make a difference for average. If I have a chemical that says 16oz per acre foot and my pond is 8 foot deep, since the actual surface is 1 acre do I use 1 dose of 16oz for the pond, or would I use 8 doses of 16oz (128oz) for the entire 1 acre 8 foot deep? hope this makes sense, I am just wondering if I am not treating my pond with enough chemical. Thanks

You would use 8 doses of 16 oz each for your example, i.e. the pond would take a gallon to treat to the entire depth.

Your pond doesn't have straight sides at 8 feet tall though right? So you should figure your average slope down into the pond (run over rise or in this case run over drop into the pond) and then what portion of the pond is at full depth. The volume calculation for an ice cream cone with the cone shaped like a true cone (think waffle cone) is 1/3 of the volume of a cylinder of the same height.
So your full acre feet may be 1/4 of the total (as figured like you mentioned above as if you had vertical 8 foot walls at the outer edge) if you have gradual sloping depths to the bottom, or maybe 1/3 of that if your slope is less gradual.
So a 1 acre pond may only have 1/2 acre/feet or even 1/3.
Also, if you are calculating acre feet to get a proper application rate for bacteria I don't think you should feel like you messed it up in any way. I don't think you can work out an exact amount of bacteria and apply it, and then find that it did work or it didn't work based on how many millions of bacteria you added, vs being short a few million on your calculations.
If you are trying to clear muck there is a good chance that the bacteria are not going to make a noticeable difference without the other critical factors needed to reduce muck.
Other forum members may have a good rule of thumb to help estimate acre feet.

My pond isn't even an acre I just didn't want to over complicate things with a 3/4 acre foot needing application rate for 1 acre foot conversion. basically what I came up with is I added enough for 1 acre foot when in fact I have about 5-6 acre foot (converted from 3/4 acre totals) and this is for like a shock rate also. I added more bacteria tonight and will see what happens over the weekend.
