Adding fish to my pond. 1/5 acre, FHM/CCs only. I have so many minnows I wanted another predator in there. Picked up 12 HSB, 20 BCs,for me, and 10 LMB for my neighbor. This is the third time I have picked up fish from Oveton's, always get lively fish of the size and number I pay for. Thanks Todd! The small blue cats are feeding, perhaps the HSB. Can't tell, but there are splashes that do not resemble catfish. Hopefully this fall when the water cools off again we will catch some hybrids.
Do they get hook shy like CCs do, or can you catch and release (in cooler water).

My experience is HSB's definitely do get hook shy, at least mine do.
They're also very sensitive in warm water, so your 'cooler water' note is really important.

HSB's do get hook shy! I have a hard time catching my 5 pounders now, but when I do it's fricken awesome!!! Once the water temps gets over 80 I would be careful about the big HSB and releasing them. I think if I remember right the late great George said something like over 3 pounds and you may just want to keep them if you don't have a good way to revive them. George was awesome at that tho and could keep some big HSB alive. In cooler water temps tho like 70 or below most will be ok specially the smaller guys. ie: under 3 pounds. Oh and they taste awesome!! I couldn't believe it! I would put them right up there with my top 5 fish in taste.

Just don't fish for them to often and you will be fine.
