OTS CNBG
What causes the bugging out of eyes? Something I am doing wrong? This fish is about 7 months old. Maybe just a freak? Too much feed? Maybe h got som lime in his eyes last week

Chad, I'm no expert by any stretch so hopefully someone with some knowledge will be along soon.
Hopefully you haven't seen too many of these in your pond?
In the meantime, here's a few things I found online about the bulging eyes or "popeye" as some have referred to it:
BACTERIA (such as Aeromonas spp.)
Bacteria Fish popeyed; scales puffed with fluid (dropsy). Bloody wounds, inflammation around mouth. Infects stressed fish. Severely infected fish probably won't bite on hook, but may be found dead or distressed. May have open bloody wounds. Maybe If wound is superficial, cut out infected tissues. Do not eat if fish has puffy body and swollen eyes.
Bacteria � Bacterial infections occur most frequently during periods of transition (summer to fall or winter to spring) when water temperatures are changing or any time fish may be
subject to stress (high temperatures, low water, low dissolved oxygen). Fish may display lesions, ulcers, hemorrhaging of the fins, belly, or around the gills, bulging �pop� eyes,
distended or fluid filled abdomen, cottony growth, dull patches or �saddleback�, deteriorating or missing fins, or distended scales with localized scale loss.

That would really suck if my fish had this. Since these are OTS I would ask Todd @ Overtons on how to treat the pond if one can do so. He has always been more than helpful when I ask him questions Tracy

What % of fish do you see the bulging eyes exhibited in ?

This may be what happened to me last year when I caged too many adult BG together - developed a bacterial infection due to stress which resulted in a pop-eye effect. I coated feed with antibiotic and it cleared up in a couple weeks, but not before I lost a dozen huge BG I'd been growing for years. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=418848&page=1

Thanks Guy's.
Eric, As of now, this is the only one that has shown bugged eyes. My 11yr old probably catches 20-30 fish a day. (Just stocked in October) I have him record the weight and length of almost every fish. I am currently offshore and the wife sent me this pic.
My son carried the fish into the house and told his mom that one fish had cancer. (bug Eyes) LOL.... She then told me he tossed it into the woods because he didnt want it to affect "his" other fish.
Teehjaeh, I'll be on the look out for others. If I need I may look into an antibiotic to put on the optmial feed.
I'll check with Todd and see if he has any suggestions.

I would not worry about 1 fish. With that kind of sampling you should just keep an eye open for problems that may show up.
