Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain minnow ID help

Can anyone ID these minnows? I believe the big one is the common shiner.No idea on the second smaller one.

Also wondering if these would be good or bad to put in my pond.

1 acre, max depth of 16', 500 perch, 25 walleye, 25 hybrid bluegill, 1 smallmouth bass.

Was able to train these wild perch to feed off pellets!

You are correct the 1st one is a common shiner. They will not spawn successfully in a pond unless you have moving water such as a water falls. A sump pump pushing water parallel & along a rocky shore may work to get hatched eggs during their spawning season in the pond.

2nd picture is blurry. I think it might be a northern redbelly dace.

But with a blurry picture, it could be any minnow with a lateral stripe.

Note how clear the ruler is in the 1st pic compared to the 2nd pic.

Congratulations on getting the wild perch to eat pellets. You will notice very good growth of those that eat pellets. Some will become 12"-14".

Are white suckers good to put in a pond or will they just make the water cloudy by stirring up the bottom?

White suckers are unlikely to spawn in a pond. So they will not create a forage base. Numerous large ones could roil the water.
