Hi I am new to this forum. I have a one acre pond pond on the property we bought. It doesn't hold water and by the end of the summer it only has water in one corner. I am in central Indiana and would like to find someone who could find the problem. It is only 7 ft deep and I would like to hire a professional who knows ponds to dig it deeper. Does anybody know someone in this area. Thanks

Welcome Joe!

Hopefully someone in the area will chime in soon with some recommendations.

What are your long term goals for the pond?

Hi Joe, Another Hoosier. Welcome. A leaky pond is nightmare no pond owner wants to deal with. Study intently the information in this PBoss Archives link to educate yourself so you can better choose a qualified pond builder. Learn what is needed to construct a well sealed pond. Leaky ponds are a very common forum topic here for members because they did not do adequate homework and trusted a construction guy that promised he could 'dig' a good pond. I am learning more and more that many bulldozer operators do not know the science and principles of proper pond construction and what it takes for the best soil compaction methods.

We are planning on building our house next to the pond and I'm an avid fisherman so I will be doing a lot of research on stocking it as well. I will post some pics as soon as I figure out how. Hopefully someone will know somebody in Indiana that can help me. Thanks again

Hi and welcome. I can't add any good advice but wanted ta say hi. Since Mr Cody met me he appreciates us Hoosiers.
When I was a kid my dad used ta take me to the race track in Anderson. They had figure 8 races and it was a blast.

I am 30 miles west of Indy and have also been in search of a pond builder. Take your time and find someone that can do the job right. The gentleman that built my first pond was fantastic, but he is now retired. My second pond took 4 contractors and is OK after much stress and more money than I was quoted. I have a set of side-by-side ponds in the plan in twin gullies in the woods. I am hoping to get a plan from the NRCS, but they have not yet committed to doing this for me.

Thanks for the advice. It seems like there aren't very many good pond builders in this area. Can someone explain to me how to post pictures?

Read through this thread in the link. It is older information but the basic methods should be the same. Worst case, up load the photos somewhere then just provide a link to the ones you want to show.
