Any one familiar with these? I was thinking of adding some to my pond thinking the body shape would led its self to being eaten by the predators in the pond and they will eat some of the GAMS as non of my predators reproduce thus I have no smaller predators to eat them and they are out of control eating up all the shiner eggs and fry...I think. in a normal Bass pond every year they get thinned out by schools of hungry YOY bass. I don't have this Pirate Perch Pirate Perch

When I saw this post I was thinking of something completely different. We have caught a few yellow perch in our pond we call Pirates because they have only one eye.

I have noticed young yellow perch are particularly susceptible to having a jig hook into the mouth and through the eye.

All I know is they are native to the Great Lakes states and their anus terminates just under their throat. One of the easiest fish to identify in fisheries class for that reason.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

My research yields some schools of thought attribute this phenomenon to novice angling skills.

They are native to my area and should not be too hard to collect a few.
Any one know if they might be minnow eaters?
with the body shape they have it sure seems they would be. The are shaped like a miniature YP. My thoughts are if I can get a small breeding population they will feed on the gams in shallows and sheltered areas to help reduce the numbers of them. I should not have to worry about the PP numbers getting out of control because at max size they will make for a nice meal for many of the predators in the pond.
