We all have much to be thankful for and I as well. But as of recent, I'm thankful my 48 year old best friend and brother made it through open-heart surgery on Monday of this week. It was just a week earlier they discovered his Aortic valve had gone bad, allowing blood to flow back into his heart. Very scary as he had no symptoms and had it gone undetected, his heart would have just failed

Surgery was successful, they were able to repair the valves (2) and they anticipate a full recovery in 6-8 weeks!

And to brighten his day, he and the Nebraska Heart Hospital was paid a visit by some members of the Cornhusker football team!



Cherish those close to you, share your love and goodness, and always give thanks!

I too am glad the events of the last few days turned out the way they did. This could have been a far quieter day, but thankfully It is turning out as well as it can. All I can say is "I give a lot of credit to safety design engineers!!" But I don't recommend flying 5000 miles in a day and a half and then driving 1000 miles seven hours later. It is a long two days. Thank God I have a full moon to fly and drive with.

I was under the kitchen sink replacing a faucet today. Yee Haw! Not complicated but not much elbow room down there, and not the most comfortable place for a 58 year old.

A little cussing really helps! :-)

The wife says I'm not a bonafide plumber as my crack wasn't showing! LOL

Tomorrow I'm totally replacing the moving parts of two toilets!

This may be out of place, but I'm thankful for a successful taper down off the pills from hell the doc's gave me.

8 days after the final cut, it's all back like it was when I went to the ER last spring. They never did find out what is causing this, and all those narcotics did was mask a real underlying problem.

I'll just live with it, and poo-poo on their drugs.

JKB, controlling any meds is sure something to be thankful for. Pain meds are the worst. My wife is a pre op/post op nurse in Dallas, and people would be surprised at the sheer volume of addictive meds that some choose to never ween themselves from. It makes it very hard to relive any new surgical pain when your mind is already numbly floating through each and every day.

Just a word of thanks for your thoughts and comments regarding my brother, Steve during the holiday.

So many of us have different issues going on in our lives or those with whom we're close to, and mine are of no greater importance than anyone else's. Yet, when emotions and feelings take over we share with those who care.

So thank you, Pond Boss Family for your thoughts, whether written or silent, for being the selfless, caring community you are! And it's not just during the holidays, it's 365 days a year!

I hope you all had quality time to spend with family, and for those who weren't able to for whatever the reason, "thanksgiving" shouldn't be just one day a year, but in our hearts and minds every day of the year.

I hope everyone had as good of a Thanksgiving as I had. Keith, looks like you had a specially good TG. I am glad for you. And being thankful myself for what I have in family and in friends. I have seen several comments here the past few weeks concerning pain meds. And maybe this is not the place for discussion of such things, but discussion in whatever form is and should be open. I know of many who want to stop the availability of pain meds to people. But I would say walk in my shoes before you judge. I have been in pain management for five yrs and it has been a life saver for me. If pain management and pain medication was not available to me, I think I may have considered suicide in the past. I would not wish the pain I deal with on anyone, the quality of life can really suck sometimes. Pain meds get me through it. Sorry I got on the bandstand, but I think it was time to say something.

Tracy, if I said something that you felt was out of line, I certainly apologize for that. Pain meds are outstanding drugs, and they can sure make debilitating issues manageable. Believe me, I'm right there with you on that. I've been on various muscle relaxers, steroids, and painkillers most of my adult life from a lower back compression injury, and probably like you, I'd rather take a punch to the gut than have to rely any med that at least makes life bearable.

My personal experience though is that there are some that know the answer to "On a..." is always 10. With the whole unasked question being, "On a scale of one to ten, with ten being the worst, what's your level of pain?". Pain is a very personal thing, and a person's pain threshold is not something that can be medically evaluated, and some do in fact get addicted to painkillers. The vast majority of people that take pain meds, do take them as prescribed, and all goes well. IMO, it boils down to a responsible Dtr's ability to differentiate between what a patient wants, and what that patient really needs when prescribing those drugs, and how forthcoming the patient is being. That can sure be a tough medical call for any physician when dealing with a patient's pain, when the inherent desire of that physician to keep any patient as pain free as possible.

Most certainly no offense to anyone on my part either, just that those pills were the wrong ones for me. Trust me, they worked great as a pain killer, but the side effects outweighed that on a tremendous scale. That's why the decision to boot these.
