Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Identifying plants Watermeal or pollen ?

I have some light green stuff floating on my pond in some areas. It is very small (almost microscopic). It doesn't have any texture that I can feel. I think (hope) it is just pollen but need to ask to make sure.

It may be pollen or the starting of planktonic algae. Any chance of posting a photo.

A few days after the post the "mysterious green substance" had vanished. There was a good rain the night before, so I suspect it was just pollen. Thanks for the response.

If so, you probably had a blue-green algae bloom coming on - which crashed due to the dramatic temperature change caused by the surface-cooling effect of the rain.

Several algae species are fairly sensitive to weather fluctuations (temperatures, cloudiness, etc.) For that reason, it is risky to allow or encourage too much algae growth in a pond. A crashing algae population (due to weather or over-application of algaecides) can also crash the pond's oxygen level.
