I remember reading a thread about trash and semi-trash pumps, but the search feature isn't locating it. If anyone finds it, can you please post up the link. I hate re-inventing the wheel.
Meanwhile, my 30+ Leyland Cypress' in middle GA are in need of some serious water. Walking water in 5 gallon buckets isn't cutting it no more in that humid 100*+ heat.

We're thinking of putting a tote or 55 gal barrels on a trailer, filling them with pond water with a trash(semi) pump and watering the 30+ trees with a garden hose tapped into the bottom of the tote.

I've had good luck with the Champion brand. They have a 3", 20,580 gal/hr semi-trash pump from Tractor Supply Co. for just over $400.00 I figure I can use this later when I go to drain my pond. I love Honda engines as much as the next guy, but this is an unexpected expense and it will only see limited use.

I'm open to suggestions if anyone has gone down this road before. This needs to happen asap.

I bought a pump from Tractor Supply only to return as defective.
I ordered one from Harbor Freight for half that is amazing. Only 2" but will pump uphill a little over 400' and fills my 21x41 pool w/ less than 2 gallons of gas. 2 years with no problems and starts first or second pull. $189.99 item # 69774.
Do not but there hoses as they are junk. I did buy mine at Northern and local Tractor Supply.
One thing you have to drain and lube each winter. Mine has been outside and weekly use all this summer.

I bought a sprinkler system from Big Sprinkler.com. It came with all the hoses and connections and Honda pump. I love the Honda pump. I am also watering fruit trees (persimmon) with the pond water and this sprinkler. They sell the whole system or each item separately. The sprinkler pumps around 60 gpm at my place but it might handle more.

I added a faucet just above the bottom of a 55 gallon drum so I could add a hose to it to water the dam before it had grass and other remote trees away from our camp. The flowrate I got was less then anticipated but still was functional. I suppose this is similar, but costs much less, than one of those "rain barrels" I've seen on the internet.

Get a used 275 gallon IBC tote in a trailer if you can. Probably $75 on craigslist as every area usually has these they are getting rid. Find out what was in them before or clean carefully, some had dye, solvents, petroleum products etc, some are clean and rated as 'food grade' As long as they are clean you should be good. They are stable on a trailer and have a nice large discharge fitting on the bottom with valve. You can put 50 gallons on each tree much faster that way.

I picked up a used 3" trash pump of craigslist the first of the year when I started on my pond refresh project. It's got a Honda motor, and I have to tell you it's a dandy pump. I've moved millions of gallons with it in 2015 without a hitch.

Honda motors are expensive no doubt...but they're worth it. Try to find one second hand.

Old Wood, do you recall the brand of the defective pump you got from TSC? They sell Red Lion (never heard of them) and Champion.

I am pretty sure it was a Red Lion.

Yes, that's the thread dg. Thanks. I ended up going with the Champion 2" in/out from TSC. I would have liked the 3" for when I eventually drain my pond, but to fill a 275 gallon tote, the 3" was a little overkill. We found a tote on CL for $50 in the next county. It will fit nicely on an old trailer that will be pulled by our Kubota tractor.

Old Wood, I would have gone with the $189.99 clear water pump from Harbor Freight, but when I found out the hose kit from TSC was $199.00, it was cheaper to get the 2" pump which included the hose kit for $300.
