Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions Diffuser Placement?

So this spring I finally bought a aeration system and have it installed and running. It came with two diffusers and 100ft of weighted hose and 100ft of non-weighted hose. I am currently only running one diffuser because I didn't like how the non-weighted hose looked. My pond was built in a natural deep valley. The sides just drop off but the beach side tapers pretty slowly.. The side closer to my dam though is 20ft deep... The diffuser is sitting in 8ft of water right now.

My question is, where should I put my diffuser or diffusers for the best results. Here are a few pics of my setup so far. I can change anything and everything, its whatever you Jedi masters say...

Since installing I have noticed that my bass and bluegills aren't swimming so close to the top of the water. I used to be able to walk out to my pond and see at least 6 bass within the top two feet of water. My water has almost 3 ft of clarity though..

I'm no expert but if it were me I would put one fuser at about the 15 foot mark and one at the 8 if your going to have them separate from each other. Then you could always pull in the 8 foot deep one and use it in winter at about the 3 foot depth to help keep a nice hole in the pond for winter.

That's just me tho. Lets see what other have to say that know what their doing.

RC would that pump handle 15ft of water. And thanks again for your help! I just didn't want to keep bothering you

Oh that' pic does not look like that pump? It looks different. If it's the Eco 7 then no sorry. 8 foot is about it for them. Any more then that and it gets to hard on that pump.

No its a Thomas Big Max... Cheap Ebay one... But it runs very strong

I see from your PM you went with the Thomas pump 2600? I am not sure on the depth on that but I bet it would go at 15 feet. They are much stronger pumps!

Lets see what someone else may say about that pump but I bet it will work at 15 feet maybe more!

Bill Cody knows his pumps and a few others here a lot better than I do. Maybe he will chime in about that T-2600. Looks like a nice pump! Congrats it looks good man!!

Looks like it's a rocking piston or "WOB-L" compressor as they have it labeled on their site. Output among most of the 2600 series at 15' would be over 3 CFM Figure each diffuser needs .5 to .8CFM and my two cents is you are in the clear.

But not being an expert on the topic there are other considerations some articles if you haven't already read them that I found interesting.

Having the 2 diffusers at different depths and with different length of air line will require ball valves for each diffuser to adjust the volume of air to each.

If the pump will handle the pressure I'd put the summer diffuser in the deepest part of the pond, and maybe both of them if the one diffuser won't move enough volume of water. Then for the winter (if your pond freezes over for any extended length of time, or it freezes and you get a few inches of snow on it) I would have one running at the 5' water depth mark.
