Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Fertilization Stringy alge bloom

I fertalized a 100 acre lake. At first the bloom was a microscopic green. After a week it turned into a stringy thick bloom. The disk is at 24 but the alge is very visible. Is this normal? This is the first attempt at fertalizing and don't really know what to expect.

Timnic, I am no expert here but I will pass on what I have learned but others with more knowledge will be here shortly I am sure.
I just fertilized my new pond in N. E. Texas and did so after I was sure there was little to no FA growing in my pond. If you have FA and fertilize, the FA will take the nutrients and will reduce any bloom you might get. I have read where FA is present, it should be killed off and then a Fertilizer can be used if needed. In your case it sounds like you had FA and when you added the fertilizer it fed the FA. I think your next step if to add something to kill off the FA and or add Tilapia to the lake.

Thanks I had thought of that but I don't think its FA. I doesn't have hair like texture. If you try to pick it up it decegrates.

I can when I go back the lake is 2 hours away.
