My newer pond about 3/4 acre holds water consistently to a certain depth, then further amounts gathered from rains tends to disappear. What can be done to stop these sorts of leaks?

The first step is finding it. Hopefully it is somewhere at the surface of where the water goes down to that certain depth. If lucky, you can excavate that one area and work in some good clay and/or other better sealing materials and fix it. If you are unlucky, it could be a spring in a lower part of pond which goes in reverse if the water pressure of pond is greater than the pressure in the spring and it goes in reverse. That would mean needing to drain the pond to find it and seal it.
There are many similar stories on this site about the great search for a leak. You are in the company of many of us with the irritating problem of leaks.

How newer is it? When new ponds fill, water wicks back into the surrounding soil for quite a while.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I remember hearing that there was a spring found when the pond was originally dug. I dont like the sound of this. Seems like it would be hard to plug.

The pond is about 7 months old. I dont live at the property, but I follow the precipitation, and after some good rains I expect to see the pond getting more filled, but always at the same level.
