Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions Pump Recomendations

Can anyone recommend a pump or at least a pump size for me. My pond is about five acres with the average depth around 6-8' and the deepest area about 15'.
I already have 220v down at my pond for my lawn sprinkler pump, so I really think for economics I would rather go with a 220v pump.

What are you trying to do with the pump? Drain the lake, etc.?

Hey Bing I think trying to get a setup for air is what they are asking? How big of a pump to use for setting up an air station.

At 5 acres if it's air you are wanting you will need more than 1 station to mix the entire body of water correctly.

LOL. No I don't want to drain it, I have been doing a rain dance for months now trying to get it filled up.

I am sorry, I should have been more specific, but I am in the "Aeration Systems Section" lol

I am wanting to put together a system to aerate my entire pond. I was thinking probably three stations.

To design the system correctly, you have to start at the diffuser stations and work your way to the compressor.

Here's what I'd do if I was trying to design my own system. (I'm lazy and take the easy way out - I just get in touch with one of the advertisers here who sell vertex systems and have one designed for my specific pond, and buy it. If I want them to do all the legwork and calculate all the info for me, the least I can do is give them my business.)

But, if I didn't want to do that, and wanted to do a DIY system, then to do it properly, here's the steps you should take.

1) Calculate how many gallons of water are in the pond.
2) Calculate the quantity of diffuser stations I will need to "turn" or move the total pond water volume to the surface between 1.5 and 2 times per day running the system for the length of time that I plan on running it. I'd do the calcs for 24/7 operation.
3) Look at the depth of each station.
4) Calculate the amount of air (cfm) that all the diffuser stations will need and depth that the diffuser stations will be placed at. Figure .5 to .6 psi for every foot of depth. You only need to figure that out for the deepest diffuset station.
4) Those numbers will tell you what specs you need for the air pump. You have to look at their pressure curves and flow rates to properly size the compressor.

Thank you very much for your help and I am a little lazy myself. After doing a little homework on my own, I think that I will take your advice and just buy a complete system. The main reason that I was considering building the system myself is because I am in the industrial supply business and have most of the stuff in stock.

If you don't mind, if you would PM me the names of some of the Vertex dealers that frequent the site I would appreciate it. If you happen to be one, you get first shot. lol
