1/2 acre pond frozen solid all winter. The center is still frozen but the ends are finally melting (in Western NY) As the ice melts the pond is about a foot low. This may be a stupid question but I cant remember if this was the case in past years and I just didnt notice it. Pond is 4 yrs old and is usually full spring and fall, 6-10" low in the heat of the summer as its run-off fed only. Would the ice block in the middle and the pond thawing have something to do with it being low?

No actually the opposite.. ice gets smaller as it melts..

Ok, just for anyone else out there that may need to be smacked in the face before figuring out why things happen sometimes... my pond is runoff fed however I have a small pool where the water gathers before running down a culvert pipe to the pond. This way the sediment drops to the bottom and just water comes in. Well that is stilla block of ice as well as the culvert pipe! So there is currently no water coming in, hence the pond being low...

IMHO, this wasn't even close to dumb... Scott, I think we should start a thread titled something like; I can't believe I was this stupid. If others will participate, I will post the first bonehead story of the pond life adventures of MNFISH.

Guys this is my new 1/8 acre minnow pond. I just started a new thread with it in it. This pic is in here as I accidentally put it In the wrong thread...this is nowhere near 1/2 acre.
