How early do FHM spawn? Ice has been gone here for over 2 weeks and I've been throwing the fish some feed every day with more and more bluegill showing up daily. Today was the first day some YP and one SMB showed up. I saw 3 large schools of FHM in the shallows. They were very small and I couldn't tell for sure that's what they were because of their small size but I don't know what else they could be.

i have seen evidence of them spawning this early

My guess is you're seeing YOY from late Summer or Fall spawn. FHM won't spawn until water temps are into the 60s...thought IL was still in a deep freeze - but maybe not.
