I've been hearing about this for a while now and as I understand it, when/if approved, we will require EPA permits and approval for any and all construction on or near any body of water in the US, even the smallest of farm ponds. Failure to do so will incur a fine of $38K per day. Here is the URL to the EPA discussion:

http://water.epa.gov/lawsregs/guidance/wetlands/CWAwaters.cfm

I have planned to build a floating dock before next spring and wonder if I should hasten the pace before some fool tells me I can't. Anyone have any knowledge or insight on this?

I would wait and hear what our environmental lawyer in resident
Eric West has to say about this.

EPA and the COE have ignored the SCOUS decisions repeatedly and will continue until the political structure stops them. The saga continues.

A mere demarcation on parchment of the constitutional limits of the several departments, is not a sufficient guard against those encroachments which lead to a tyrannical concentration of all the powers of government in the same hands. James Madison

No wall of words, that no mound of parchment can be so formed as to stand against the sweeping torrent of boundless ambition on the one side, aided by the sapping current of corrupted morals on the other. George Washington

Experience hath shown, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny - Thomas Jefferson

Just ribbing you Eric. I doubt I'd make it through law school let alone pass the bar. I frequent a political debate site where we use that acronym a lot. Just never seen it without the 't' there.

This is going to sound terrible but when I see that acronym I think of something else. My dads side of the family referred to diarrhea as "the scoots."

So is SCOTUS plural for the scoots? grin
