Hey all, I was wondering what to expect when you start feeding BG's. I have about a hundred in my new pond and have thrown feed once a day in the same area for a few days but I dont see any feeding. What am I doing wrong?

In all probabiltiy, you are doing nothing wrong, nothing at all. Some on here have reported taking several weeks for the BG to become conditioned to artificial feed. In my case, it has been only a few days. One of the keys is doing just what you are doing, feeding the same place at the same time every day. Also, be sure the sun angle is low....early morning or late evening...never direct sunlight.

I didnt know about the direct sunlight. Thanks, I'll keep trying.

Two things which I think can affect how eager BG in a new pond are to start pellet feeding:

1) How much natural food is available in the pond. With only 100 BG present, they may have a relative smorgasbord available naturally and see little need to take pellets at this time.

2) Some feeding locations may be more attractive to the BG than others. While I think you should continue regular feeding attempts in the current spot, you may want to look for additional location(s) which the BG would perceive differently - different proximity to deep and shallow water, closeness to structure, in the shade vs. direct sun, etc.

It took 2 1/2 years for me to get my BG feeding well (I think they were stupid, they blame me), but in the year since their feeding has shown near-continuous gains in both the number and size of BG eating regularly. My pond had an 18 month head start on the BG, so item #1 above probably applied. Also, I switched feeding locations in the pond (from the NE corner to the SE corner, with better access to deep water) less than a month before the BG started feeding well (item #2).

Don't give up, those BG WILL start eating pellets sooner or later.
