I stocked a pond with prawns back in april. Time to harvest.... I am going to use a crawfish trap. What can I put in the trap to attract the prawns?
thanks!

What did you feed them?
With Prawns, you'll want to purge them after harvest for a while in clean water, while alive. Otherwise, they will taste like the pond, or the last thing they ate.

I did not feed them. I tossed floating catfish feed into the pond once a week. I am told that it did not feed them, but fed the pond.... The pond is thriving with minnows. Nothing else as it went dry during the drought....

Did the pond go dry? If it is a small pond, seine it. How did the minnows get in if it went dry?
Use your cat-fish food in your traps since that's what you've been feeding them.

The pond went dry during the brutal Texas drought 2 yrs ago. Minnows seem to be able to appear in a puddle on a street where we are! I want to be able to leave the trap over night. I thought the catfish feed would dissolve after a short time.... thanks!

I can't go any farther than that .

I have found that leaving a trap out over night isn't all that productive. Somehow, they find their way out. I catch a lot more fish when I check traps every hour or so.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
