Due to visual problems (all OK, now) which made me unable for some months to engage in my afternoon walk and hand-feeding, I have nearly a hundred pounds of pellets left over from about June of last year. The food has been dry the whole time, looks and smells OK, and the �gills are hot for the small test quantities I threw them today. But, I am worried about causing �no blood disease� by using the old feed.
Does anyone know if I should pitch the feed or if I can safely use it?

We can usually smell moldy food easily so if you can not semll it and you did not store in high heat I think it sounds like it is fine. It just may not have the vitamins in it like it did when fresh.

If in doubt, throw it out. Good feed normally has a shelf life of about six months. If kept dry, it can last longer. Greg is correct about vitamins degrading. If there's fish meal in the feed, it can degrade, too. But, unless there's mold, the food is good.
