Hello. I have been off of here for awhile due to my pond drying up last fall.
Yesterday the water was unleashed! We went from no water to over flowing pond in less than 48 hours. My questions is, how long before the non-pond plants die being underwater?
I have uploaded a before and after picture. Thoughts, recommendations, etc? As a reference point, the weeds you see in the middle of the pond are roughly 7 - 8 feet tall.
Olpe, Kansas just south of Emporia. I dug out 3 ponds last year and we just had 6 inches of rain in 2 days and i got no runoff in my ponds thats how dry it was here 2 inch cracks in the ground. I have alot of vegetation in my ponds also. I know the minnows like it.
Yeah, I was told my pond has not been dry in the past 25 years, but it happened last fall. Wasn't too big of a deal since I have an over population of BH. But I did lose my first stocking of CC, BG & LMB.
Now that I am back to full pool, I don't want to spend money on stocking until a well is in place to sustain the level of water. It may never dry again, or may take 25 years for it to happen, but I don't want to risk it.
Does anyone have ideas on how to, cheaply, remove this excess vegetation? Will certain minnows slowly eat them away? Should I let time run it's course until all the vegetation dies from being 90% submerged?
Also, what's the odds that I will have BH in the pond still? It was completely dry for about 2 months. With 6 months before that only having approximately only two 10' puddle in the bottom. And it froze 100% solid this winter. Thoughts?
