So I threw out a turtle line the other night and while I was still setting another one my pole flipped in the water  I had a 5in Bluegill on it. So last night I set out with the wife and we both put 5in BG on our lines. Sure enough within 4 min our bobbers went under. It was like a shark attack. I guess its time to get these Catfish out if they are big enough to swallow BG this size in one bite. Could this be the reason my LMB are stunted at 15in???

It is probably one of several factors.

I used to catch 17"+ LMB all the time at my dad's old pond using 7" BG for catfish bait.

Well I caught two big cats last night. One at 24in, 5lbs and the next at 27in 7lbs. The 7lb boy had my hook in from the turtle line. Made 3 bags of fillets for the freezer!

I am using Catfish (CC) as a predator for my Black Crappie Pond to help keep the BCP from over populating.

When they get to that size, they become a problem. I try not to let mine get above 24 inches. I'm not always successful. Worst of all, the bigger they get, the harder they are to catch. I'm fortunate to have a cold water creek nearby, where I can get lots of creek chubs (3-5 inches). I find that putting creek chubs on very sharp #4 circle hooks, after dark, is pretty effective for getting the big ones. Creek chubs are pretty hardy and they seem to be an irresistible meal for big catfish. I don't use any weights or bobbers. Just the hook and minnow at the end of a line, on a rod stuck in a 1-1/2 inch PVC home-made rod holder pounded into the shoreline. I'm trying to remove all the catfish from my larger pond. I have a smaller pond that is just catfish and hybrid bluegill.

Yes it could be a big factor. What type of catfish ?

They are Channel Cats. I think I will have my nieces and nephews over and see how many we can get out in one day. Hopefully it will help the bass size. There seems to be an abundant amount of these size catfish in there. My pond is 3/4 of an acre but is 24ft deep on the dam side. Any chance there are some bigger cats hiding out in the depths or should I keep fishing the shallow waters?
