fly: I assume the blue stone is copper sulfate??? If so that is one way to treat FA. We used to call it Blue Vitrol.

Today most people use Cutrine Plus rather than Copper sulfate. Cutrine Plus is a Chelated copper that seems to be not as harsh as Copper Sulfate. It does not bind with the soil as quickly and is more effective. Cutrine Plus is available as a liquid or powder.

When talking about Copper Sulfate I, however, do not think you can just "throw some of the powder on the top of the water". Most of the time it is placed in suspension and sprayed on the water or placed in something like a gunny sack and dragged through the water. Either product can be toxic to fish, especially trout and grass carp and it is easy to overdose resulting in a fish kill. (learned that first hand).

No - it is CUSO4 or copper sulfate and you want to stop it from building up in the soil. Put some in a bucket (big hand full) and fill with water. Pour the blue water into a sprayer and spray the FA. But first check your alkalinity to be sure its well over 20ppm.

Ewest, that is exactly the method I used with Copper Sulfate before I started using Cutrine Plus. This is the first year since I've owned the place that I have not had to treat FA and Duckweed.

Yes Bing I agree BTW - Chelated copper is much better than CUSO4 and far less of a risk to the fish.
