Hi. New to the site. I have some land in Kansas which had a silted farm pond which was overgrown to say the least. So I thought I would clean it up a bit to have a nice view for a house I want to build in a couple of years.  This is where I started. After cleaning this is where I am at. The pond should be about a acre and about 15 ft deep in the middle and 2-3 at the edges.  Here is where I am at. My next steps while waiting for it to fill is to seed the dam, haul in some sand for a beach area, and eventually build a small fishing pier and picnic shelter. I wish I had found this site sooner, many of the questions I had, would have been answered before I spent the $. But now that I've found you, I will be back!

Welcome Bob, looks good. What is your source of water? There are some great sites on here about structure and grasses etc. Good luck.

Regarding the sand for a beach area: There has been previous discussion here about building beaches. The botton line is that the sand seldom wants to stay where you put it. It has a tendency to slide downhill to the bottom of the pond. To be successful, you just about always have to contain it with something like railroad ties. Even then, it is tough and seldom winds up like the pristine beach that we imagine and plan.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Thanks. The first pic shows the problem. The original dam had a washout probably a good 20 years ago. I had several large trees on both the dam and in the pond area that had to come out.
As near as I can tell from looking at the topo map, this primary source of water will be drainage from a large pasture area (a couple of hundred acres or so). There may be more area draining into the pond, but haven't figured that out yet. I had a couple of feet of water show up after getting about .1" of rain, so I'm hopeful this won't be a dry pond. There are also a couple of small springs which are feeding a small amount of water. I am planning to put a well in also, but hadn't plan on using it to keep the pond topped, so I'll have to see.
Pond is in KS and Im living in Maryland right now so don't get to spend as much time as I'd like to get dirty..
