What kind of algae is this and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks.

It rained after I took the first picture and the rain sort of broke it up. In the morning it will look like the first pic and cover the surface of the pond. If the wind blows it will blow it all to the side. Looks like pictures I have seen of Blue Green algae.

I have the same thing in my pond, last year before I stocked it I used Cutrine Plus and it took care of it. This year the pond is stocked including channel cat so I was told not to use copper based products. I am searching for something to use that is safe for the fish and effective...problem is most of the chemical companies I have spoke with it's going to cost me $$$$$.....

Oh one last thing, if it's doing like mine it's pretty clear in the morning then by the afternoon sun the entire 1.5 acres are nearly covered. I was told that it sinks in the evening/night, then rises to the top during the day. I do not remember what it was called though.

There are Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhydrate based algaecides that are safe for use with catfish. The one that I use is Phycomycin, but there are others. Check the ingredients of Green Clean/Green Clean Plus, and Pak27.

Will there be any discussion about aquatic plants in general? Last year I attended a pond seminar hosted by my local extension office, and the turnout was exceptional....it seemed like half of the folks there had a sample of some "weed/scum/moss" that they wanted identified, and were very interested in treatment options for same.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

I'm sure there will be questions on aquatic plants. Just like here on the forum, rarely do the topics stay on one thing. I have no idea what Bob is going to talk about. I haven't planned anything for after lunch, maybe we could all sit back down and just have a general question and answer BS session? I'd bet Ted, Bill and Bob know a heck of a lot more about weeds than I do.
