Hi I just stocked my new half acre pond with minnows 100 CC fingerlings and 200 HBG and would like to know will the fish run out the pond when it rains and over flows. Thanks for any advice.

No, they won't - they usually swim.  Anywhoo....................... You might lose some, but I doubt that it will be enough that you should worry about it, and I doubt that it would be enough that you would need to restock.

True, but they also are in ponds/lakes. To be honest, there is no way to easily keep fish in a pond when it gets full enough to use the emergency spillway. You could put up a fence or blocking net, but then you'd have to be out in the rain all the time cleaning debris out of the net or it'd fill up completely.

MOST fish try to go upstream in a flood. Some small fish will inevitably be swept away.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Are you referring to a spillway,(heavy rain event), or overflow pipe (normal discharge)? They will certainly escape either way, but while there isn't much you can do to stop em' escaping while water is overflowing the spillway, you can install a barrier around the pipe....just be sure and keep it clean.
And just for the record, I have it on good authority that new stocker HBG will escape through a 4" PVC pipe that's only running half full.

It's just a earthen spill way since the pond is new I havnt put a pipe on it yet I'm wanting to poor a concrete spill way so it don't get wash out by erosion, but I have to let pond damn settle a bit before I poor my concrete spill way.
