I have a small pond, 50x50 ave depth of 4-6 feet. Stays full all year, even in last years drought.. It is actually a run off/retention pond. I wanted to make a minnow pond to raise fatheads. No other fish are in it. I stocked 10 dozen Fatheads in last week, and noticed today that there are a bunch of bullfrogs in there. Will they eat all my minnows? Is it a futile endeavor?? I put a couple dead pine trees with no needles and some concrete blocks and bricks in. It also has tons of shoreline cover with hay type grass that has grown and fallen over into the water.

Thoughts on a minnow pond success, or bust? I appreciate any advice..

If you mow the grass short around the pond edge to limit cover for the bull frogs, they may all get eaten or move on the a safer home. That could help the cause... Bull frogs will eat some of your FHM, but I don't think they will eat them all. Once they start spawning they are rather prolific, so I think you'll be OK.

IMO you should be fine, I don't think bullfrogs will get very many minnows.

I don't see bullfrogs eating too many FHMs.

If you're planning a minnow pond I would definitely keep the pond edge trimmed down, mowed, and everything all the time.

That should keep frogs, snakes, herons, and other unwanted stuff away from your water's edge. If they don't stay away at least they will be easier to see and deal with.

First, eat the bullfrogs!
Second, be wary of mowing up to the pond edge. We get night herons and five species of daytime fish eating herons and such in Texas. They will wreck a pond that they can stand upon with nothing blocking their access to the edge.

Just a thought.

Bigsprig i see you are in danbury about 30 min from me in hitchcock. What size pond do you have and what do you stock? Am debating what to do with my new to.me pond. Also any experience with danbury fish farms? Any advice appreciated
