I am planning on building a 50 ac. lake. I have topo'ed the area and we have plenty of watershed to fill the lake. Also there is good clay for the dam construction, however we have several springs that flow a good bit of water. When I dig with a shovel around springs, the soil is sandy,so my question is "If the water pressure from the lake is higher than the springs pressure, will the water go the other way?" I will be clearing very large beautiful oaks to build this lake. I really want the lake, but i dont want to lose the trees if the lake wont hold water.

Yep, springs both give and take.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Would the expert recomendation to be to shoot the elevations of the springs and keep normal pool level lower as to capture water when springs are flowing, and not lose if they dry up. Any thoughts?

If that was possible, that's what I would do. I'd also make sure that the pond basin was packed well with a sheepsfoot roller. With a pond that size, I'd take every precaution that I could to avoid a leaky pond.
