Pond Boss Forums MANAGING AN EXISTING POND Fertilization Floating buckets for fertilizing?

I am a new pond owner and have only fertilized 3 times thus far this year. The first two times I used the lizuid fert. they sell at the feed store using a 2 gallon sprayer in an aluminum boat. This worked ok but takes a long time. This past time I used the floating bucket of Southern Excellence. My question is, why couldn't one use the same bucket-or a similar one and mix up your own concoction to fertilize and just float it out there again? It sure seems alot easier than spraying that sprayer for an hour out in the boat.

The bucket of Southern excellence is suppose to be a slow release of the fertiler, It suppose to last for 30 days. I threw a bucket in two weeks ago and it seems to be almost empty. I get a lot of topwater algea when I use it. I have taken it out a couple times (for a couple days) then returned it to the water (trying to slow the topwater algea) it seems to work, but I seem to like the liquid better.

Thats exactly what I've started doing DRD. I've reused the SE bucket with my own time release fertilizer. I've noticed however that it is not used up as quickly as the SE on the 0-46-0 that I placed in there, but it appears to be working.
