Pond Boss Forums GENERAL QUESTIONS Help New to this active spring

Wanting to put a pond in have a steady flowing spring been running for fifty yrs sence my parents had property still flowing good so I don't think I would have to worry about drying up and they knew the people who owned if for yrs. So my ? is we're to start it is a field for goats I'll move the goats so that's we're I am it was clay tiled yrs ago aready has a pond like shape or valley look any advice would be helpful Thanks Scott

Sometimes when you dig a pond near a spring depending on how close or elevation relationship... What can happen is you take back pressure off spring and flow will decrease. I am sure experts will chime I'n though. For my personal experience , as pond was filling i was at 600-700 gph, when full pool was achieved i went to 300/350 gph.....

You are right about where I was several years ago. What really helped me was getting a copy of the book, "Perfect Pond - Want One?", which can be ordered off this site. Go to the home page and look under "Pond Boss Store". I've read it many times and value it so much that I can't even remember what I paid for it.

Also, I recommend doing a search and downloading a copy of US Dept. of Agriculture Handbook 590. I did a ton of research before building my pond and consider this the absolute best reference out there on pond design and construction.

But when it comes down to it, most of what I learned was from this forum. You can spend many long evenings reading archived threads and finding answers to questions you havn't even thought of yet.

Tell us a little about the pond you would like to build... size, depth, for fishing, swimming, etc.
