In reading these posts, it looks like aluminum sulfate is the cure for my pond. My question is am I waisting money? There is a headwall under the 2 lane highway that all the street and property runoff enters my pond and drains out theother end to another pond behind me and finally to a creek. If I put in a couple hundred pounds (pond is an acre) will it just wash away after first good rain and the problem return? Thanks

Once the alum has reacted and settled it should stay in the pond after most rain events. However if there are sources causing turbid water still in the pond after treatment, the turbidity will quickly return after the alum application. Turbidity sources can be bottom rooting fish (carp, koi, bullheads), abundant catfish, numerous gizzard shad, too many grass carp, abundant crayfish, exposed bare pond muds, strong wave action, improper aeration, and etc.
