Found these two BG's dead this morning. One was in the water two feet from where I normally feed and the other was at the end of the pond two feet up on the bank, high and dry. Probably two of my nicer bluegills frown I have a feeling we have some nefarious activity around the pond in the night.

Sleepy, that's a shame. Always hate to lose nice fish like that. Do you this it's the dreaded Blue Heron?

Just do it...

Look like they have been dead for a while.

Ken may be able to utilize them in some fashion, and call it good!

I've never seen a heron on the pond during the day and I don't know that they fish at night, but they may.
Don't know what happened here, but I'm thinking fish rustler. Hard to say though.
Thanks for the replies.
Dan

Spawning mortality? Even if they have marks on them from a heron doesn't mean the heron didn't hit them on the way out. I always loose a few bluegills during peak spawning from stress which is right now over our latitude.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

This time of year and them being male, spawning mortality is a great bet...

I never thought about spawning mortality. Just thought it odd that one was up, high and dry, on the bank, though I guess any number of critters could have happened along in the night and dragged him out of the water and left him.
Thanks for the replies,
Dan
