We purchased our place with existing pond 3 years ago. No problems & no maintenance required until this year. Texas drought last year caused pond to go completely dry. We restocked about 2 months ago. For the past month we have not had any rain and the heat has begun. The algae started about 2 weeks ago. We are installing windmill aeration in next few weeks. Any suggestions on chemicals and what we have going on with the environment? Thank you

Welcome to the forum! Nutrients in the pond that have no plants to utilize the nutrients grow nice crops of algae. While it's a lot of work, and a mess to deal with the best way to help the problem is to rake out the algae and dispose of it on a compost pile or something like that. If you fertilize the lawn, and get rained on after that, some of the fertilizer probably washed into the pond and helped with the FA. Manually removing the FA also removes the nutrients from the pond, while killing it and leaving it in the pond does not.

I'd use Cutrine Plus liquid on it, mix according to the label, and not apply it to more than 1/4 of the pond once a week. When the FA dies, it uses O2 to decompose.

Fertilized the pond or the surrounding land? There is a new Sepro algaecide that has a phosphorous lock in it. Called SeClear. We have been using it to get success on our monthly accounts. Mix 10 oz to gallon of water and spray on algae. Good point about not spraying too much of the pond at once. You don't want a fish kill. But if you have your aerator in already, spray the whole thing.
