I added 15 lbs of minnows to my 4 acer pond last summer. They took off pretty good. I am thinking of adding more as my Bass and Bluegill population increases. My question is should I add them now in the end of September in Indiana or should I wait untill next spring?

CT - Personally I think adding more fathead minnows into an established bass population is a waste of money unless you have deep pockets. Bluegill should provide you with all the forage you need. If they don't or they are not supplying ample forage then something is wrong and you should spend your time finding out what the problem is instead of buying and dumping in more minnows.

15 lbs of fatheads will add about 1.5 lbs of bass weight to the TOTAL bass population in the pond. The fatheads, very likely, will not live long enough to spawn. A 6" -7" bass can eat the world's largest fathead minnow AND an 8"-9" bass will eat two of them one right after the other!

Do you have Raising Trophy Bass by our man Bob? If not get it and learn!

Bill is right, I added 10 lbs of fatheads to my pond in August of last year. They were all gone in less than two weeks. \:\(

From what I know, 10# is approximately 3000 minnows. If you have 500 hundred fish eating 6 each, how long do you thing they will last? The wonders of math!

Cody, McDavid and Morris are all correct. Put your money into bream, or into feeding the bream you already have in the pond. A handfull of good breeding bream can far out produce anything you can buy and throw into your pond to feed bass.
