Went to pond with small flys to see what yoy I have this year. Caught over 20 longear that were only 2-3 inches long so that was awesome to see that they had spawned. Also caught some big hybrid Bluegill and some larger longears. But I caught nearly fifty of these little guys. They were in there by the hundreds. Are they bluegill? Also noticed a huge amount of this growing in the shallows. Is this a beneficial plant or is it something i want to get rid of while I still can.

Hybrid sunfish of some sort would be my guess.

With all the species of sunfish you have present, it's hard to say for sure which hybrid it is. From looking at it, I'd be willing to say it's a LESxBG hybrid.

If you stocked long Ear and HBG it could be a long ear x HBG hybrid
"LE X BG X GS".....
I think that can happen any way.,,,,,,,,

I would agree that there are some BG genes in that fish. I have not seen that pattern and color on a sunfish hybrid. I have also not seen a LES X BG cross. Could be one.

This one is a guesstimated LESxBG There is a huge variance with hybrids, especially when you don't even know which is the mother species and which is the father species. Not real good with pond plants, anyone who knows their plants know what the plant is?

Thanks guys for the input. Looks like I need to pass out some birth control. Ewest is that water primrose a good thing or not.. Sure looks like it is getting underway in a hurry. Hopefully it will make a good home for the shrimp i turned loose tonight. Got my order in from fattig and did not have a single mortality and it was so nice getting what I ordered for a change.

I thought it may be primrose. The stuff is fast growing and invasive in my experience.
Glad to hear your shrimp came to their home in such good shape. I hope they take hold...

TJ, not sure how they'd act in comparison to the more common sunfish hybrids. Probably similar though.

It almost looks like it could have some crappie genes in it to me, but don't know it that is possible.

Only in hatchery conditions have they been able to cross crappies with any sunfish species.

Looks like a Warmouth to me. Long body and bigger mouth. That would explain the fry. Hybrids do not spawn much, do they?

Most varieties of hybrids in sunfish are mostly male. However, ozark has stocked a number of different species of sunfish into his pond. So which species crossed one doesn't know for sure... The coloration doesn't seem to fit a pure warmouth in my opinion and the mouth is not nearly large enough to be one either.
