I took these pictures this weekend. Our RES spawned! Our Tilapia are on the nest, our BG are spawning and one Bluegill's eyes were a bit bigger than its mouth!

First two photos appear to be a GSFxBG hybrid... It's amazing how aggressive HBG can be and what size lures they'll try to take on!

Is the 3rd pic a tilapia on its nest?

The 4th and 5th pics look to be a pure LES. A rather fat one at that, most likely a female full of eggs ready to spawn.

6th pic is an immature BG.

7th pic is an immature RES.

I agree with CJ. Does Picture #6 look a bit stunted? (eye size)

CJ, the third picture is the Tilapia over his nesting area. The reason I posted the LES pics was the coloring. Most of the LES I find in our ponds are lighter colored, so I thought it different enough to post.

Esshup, the fish in the 6th picture had good weight and body thickness, but I get what you are looking at with its eyes larger than normal. That fish, as with all of the fish I caught in the trap this week were full of energy.

Side note, I have been supplementing the fish with AM 500. One of my friends stops by every other day and gives them 1 to 2Lbs every time he stops by and I feed them every day I am at the farm.

I love LES but I rarely hear of them around here and never caught one, but I'd sure like to. How cool, nicely done. Your HBG looks like he's about to burst. Well done thanks for sharing those photos!

Fish a small rocky river anywhere in the Midwest and you should be able to find some LES...

You say the "bluegill" in pics 1 and 2 had eyes bigger than its mouth. You probably already know this, but as some others have mentioned, that is definitely not a bluegill. It is a hybrid of some type, and given its large mouth it is likely to have some green sunfish in its bloodline. Nonetheless, a fine looking fish.

Travis, agreed, there is GSF in it, but it fought like a fish twice its size! I have seen a few others in our pond with that same coloration last year, so it will be interesting to see if I find any others like it this year.

A GSF can out fight a BG that is much bigger than it is. I really like them.
