hi, new member here.
I have a pond approx. 1 acre in size and it has developed a small leak at the dam.
My local farm advisor told me I need at least 300 lb of bentonite BUT I am not able to find it anywhere in this area It being North Ga., only able to find it out west .Does anyone know of a dealer in Georgia or surrounding states?
All advise is appreciated, thanks

I don't know where to get it down there, but call around to some of the companies that drill water wells. They use bentonite to make drilling mud.

We have some sources of bags. Email [email protected]. We are out of state shocking all week so we will try to provide prices not a normal stock item. We order coupe times a year.

Well it was a good try but, Mr Grimes has informed me that he has lost his supplier for Bentonite. I do appreciate his effort, thanks.
So its back to square one, Still seaching and the drilling companies are no help.
Any other suggestions?
Any and all are appreciated.

There are (20) 50 lb bags of it on the Lynchburg VA craiglist that were posted today for $10 per bag.

I too was having problems finding it locally in PA, so I contacted the folks at the site below. They hooked me up with the local distributor and they ended up being pretty close to me. http://www.pondsealer.net/Hope this helps!

My 60x100 pond has been drained and cleaned with a bobcat. It has never held water very well. If I buy bentonite in the super sacks (3,000 lb), what it the most effective way to apply it?

I'd spread it out with the bobcat, then till it into the soil to incorportat it, then get a sheepsfoot roller in there to compact it. You can't just spread it out on the soil and fill the pond. On second thought you can just spread it out, but don't expect it to seal the pond....  BTW, Welcome to the forum!!

Thanks. I called several suppliers, all of which ship from the mines in Texas. Shipping costs the same, regardless of how much I buy, so I'm going to get 15 super sacks (45,000 lbs). If I use 2 lbs per sq ft, I only need 4-5 bags max. Just have to figure out what to do with the rest. I'm in southwest Ohio.

It is a lot of extra handling, but if you have a tractor or access to one... a 3 point pto driven spreader (spinner type) works pretty well. They usally hold about 500-600 lbs per load. If you can find someone with a drop spreader (8 foot or wider) will also carries a lot of weight and does well.
I have seen people use excavtors lift the super sack and slit the bottom to semi spread it and then use the bobcat, or something being a tractor or ATV to even it out.
