It was recommended to me by a fish hatchery to add 1-2 tons of lime to our newly constructed BG/LMB pond while it is dry. He recommended this based on where we live in East TX.
This may be a very elementary question, but since the pond will only be around an acre is it as simple as buying bags of lime at the ag or home store and applying with a spreader? I mean would it even be worth someone's time to pay them to spread such a small amount? (I'm assuming there is not a special type of lime out there I should use.)
As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ag lime from the Co-OP via spreader truck is the easy and least expensive way. You can use pelletted lime (costs more) in bags but be sure it�s not hydrated lime. A soil test would be a good idea. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=92617#Post92617

Who is the hatchery? Might be a lot of difference in 1 or 2 tons.
I would do the soil test and then, like Ewest says, use the spreader truck. 4,000 pounds is a lot of sweating.
