Dang it, now THAT didn't take long! grin

Mike has been trying all season long to get a bird. Our season ends Sunday evening. He took a friend out last week for his first turkey hunting trip and his friend whacked a bird. This was the first chance that I had to get out this year, and an hour and a half later this one was on the ground. We watched 6 gobblers fly down and walk away.... This one came in from the complete other direction. There IS footage on a LidCam. Greg, if you see this, PM Mike and I'm sure he'll find a way to get the video to you. 22#, 17mm spurs, 10 7/8" beard. I estimated the bird was 45 yd out.

After about an hour of making bird noises after the shot, I looked over my left shoulder and see a coyote in the field, about 80 yds looking directly at us. We are hunkered down on a ditch bank, under a low growing mulberry tree. I lip squeak at the coyote, and it's ears perk up our way, and it starts to come in like it was on a line. I grab the gun, and we had a discussion on whether the gunshot would spook the turkeys that were in the field about 500+ yds away. The 'yote comes within about 30 feet, and I couldn't swing the gun because it hit the tree trunk. The 'yote sees the movement and spooks out into the field for a split second. That allows me to get the gun around the tree trunk (and Mike). Then the 'yote turns and makes a beeline for us. It stops about 20 feet away looking directly at us. I squeeze the trigger and send a 2 oz. load of copper plated #6's at it's nose. Needless to say, I won't be posting the picture of the 'yote on here, it's a wee bit messy. He got footage of the 'yote on the LidCam too, but the lighting wasn't the greatest for the last 5 seconds.....

Thanks Mike! Go whack one tomorrow morning.

Well I would have never guessed it was Scott.

Although I'm just a city boy and don't proclaim to know much about hunting it seems to me like if you really wanted to catch some turkeys you would have worn one of these...
