There is nothing else better in life than friends and grand kids.

The new floating dock is now usable. Not quite finished, but good enough to enjoy. A good friend (25 years younger and with lots more energy) came over yesterday and nearly worked me to death getting it done. My 7-1/2 year old grand daughter supervised and made sure we did it right!





At the extremes, the pond goes about 18 inches above and below pool over several years during the various seasons. We hinged the dock so that it should be able to float over that range without any stress. Most of the time it stays within a few inches of full pool.



When the concrete cures, the dock will generally be pinned to two 3-foot deep x 9-inch diameter concrete footers. Using "L" pins, it can pivot up and down on these also.



The way it is hinged, we can disconnect it from the shore, flip the walkway over the top of the floating platform, and move the whole thing to a different area of the pond. For instance, in the springtime, the trout congregate in one area. During the summer, the bluegill congregate in another area. Swimming is best in yet another area.

Sweet! I think you'll enjoy it well. Are you sure you have enough barrels under it? (sarcasim). You'll be ready to have a family reunion on it! You gonna let it weather for a couple of months, then stain it? I'd go with a lighter stain to start with, you can always go darker next time you stain. Again, good job man!

Man, that looks great, Ken! Can't wait to come over and give it a real weight-bearing test! Send Gary over here next - can't wait much longer to get his input on the projects we discussed, and I may just have to mimic that dock concept!

The bluegill are getting so big in my pond that I felt I needed all those barrels to keep it from going under if I hooked into one while on the dock!

And Wahiawa. I guess it has changed a lot since I lived on Ohai Street back in the early 1970s. In the four years I lived there, a "drought" was when it didn't rain for more than about 8 hours. Beautiful place.

Todd, come on over. Also, we may have to make a weekend trip to build a dock at your place. Lynda has had Gary under house arrest and on tight parole since the powerline issue went away. We're doing lots of things to the house and property. Lots of new recipes since you were here last, so plenty of exciting eating.

That all sounds good to me, Ken! I am really anxious to get some things done this season, including getting my pavilion built. If Gary is locked down, I may resort to the guy I was going to have to do it originally and save you and Gary for the deck/dock concept I'd like to get rolling. We'll chat this week.

Heck, if you weren't so far away, I'd say that my friend and I would come build one for you in exchange for some fishing on your lake -- and I'd even do a fish fry at the end!

I went into the freezer this morning to get some ice-packs before I headed out for the work week. I thought I heard ESSHUP's venison ham calling out "Eat Me Pond Boss Friends, I dare you to just Eat Me!"
