I am worried about fish kill during hibernation in the winter months. My geothermal feed to my 1/3 acre pond is now at about 20" below the surface water. Is there any risk for fish kill? Should I extend the line to 9' to help, or would that just make it worst. I am currently stocking BG,FH, and one small mouth bass. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Welcome to the forum LM.
What is the average depth of your pond? For the sake of argument let's call it 5 feet. That would be 1.6 acre/feet of water or about half a million gallons. What is your geothermal feed gpm? In my opinion it would have to be pretty significant flow to impact half a million gallons. My 1/7 acre pond has an inflow of 18 gpm and it barely impacts the water temperature at all. Maybe two degrees or so. As far as temperature goes I doubt if any geothermal feed would do much more than provide some beneficial fresh water. Is there any other information you can provide us?

When you say "geothermal feed" is that the discharge from an open loop system? If so what is the source of the water? What is the capacity of the geothermal unit? Do you know the calculated heat loss of your home?
2/3 acre pond 12 miles from that big pond we call Lake Erie.
