Hello all.

I currently live just outside of Houston in Pearland, TX and have 40 acres in the woods in between College Station and Austin.

The reason I joined the forum is because I currently have a couple of small ponds on my property that need to be renovated (one of them basically filled in and the damn eroded, one just needs to be dug out a bit). I'd also like to build another larger pond on my lower pasture.

Going to try to do the renovation myself - probably need some hired dozer work for the new pond.

Anyhow, I've been reading the forum a bit and it seems like there is a ton of information.

Welcome to the pond show Cameron.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

hey cameron im new also. i just built a new 3/4 pond and have been getting tons of information from the guys on this forum. that bill cody guy has a lot of great advice and seems to really know his stuff.

i know the guys on this site like to have folks get the vegitation and fish food chain in balance. with that said, look at the forums where there were previous discusions on habbitat, vegitation, creating the food chain, minnow selection, or fish stocking. all of these forums helped me. i know the big question they asked me was what were my goals for my pond. that really got me started on the right foot. good luck.

I'll definitely have a ton of work to do in figuring all that stuff out.

Right now, it seems like there's almost no vegetation in my existing pond. Tons of minnows, but no bigger fish.

Not sure why.

What I've found after reading the forums for several months is that sometimes it helps to get a professional come out to your place for an assessment/evaluation.

I made lots of assumptions based on the threads on this forum plus magazine and Internet articles. Some were right -- some were dead wrong.

I think spending a little money up front to help establish goals and a long-term view is worthwhile. It won't take a fortune. Texas has lots of respected professional pondmeisters.

Welcome to the group fom Magnolia Texas. I found that a lot of reading a good notebook is a good start. Get you and idea of what you wont and get a plan on paper. Kinda like I tell my guys Plan your work and work you plan. Good luck to ya.
