So while the kids were enjoying the "new" pond for the last time before returning to school after Labor Day, a few of us tried our hand at fishing.
When we stocked the SE MN pond in May, the 180 hbg were 3" long & 20 bass were 3-4". 35 walleyes 5-6". I put in 3 gallons of fhm and 2 wood pallets in shallow water to promote spawning. Pond is new last year, 21 ft maximum, .6 acre. A windmill aerator was installed and seems to be functioning well. Minnows appear to have taken hold, along with lots of frogs, toads, and insect species.
We had a blast and caught some of each of the species mentioned above, with individuals in each group pushing 2x the lengths listed above. I would think these growth rates must be very good. What can I expect over the next year at this rate?

I'll let the experts answer your question but I recommend that you begin keeping catch records (if you haven't already). Record length and weight of each fish caught. Ok I'll answer your question. What can I expect over the next year at this rate? Many more fun days of fishing. ![laugh laugh](/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif)

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

What can I expect over the next year at this rate? Watch to be careful that you don't see the LMB starting to stunt. You do not have enough forage to maintain the LMB and WE. The size of the FH is not energetically enough to sustain the LMB and WE once they have some size.

Bluegill, yellow perch, and/or pumpkinseed sunfish might be excellent forage fish choices for your area.
