I was at a fish kill at a pond recently and saw dead adult carp but no dead juvenile carp and a number of dead adult largemouth bass but just a few juvenile bass. Lots of dead juvenile sunfish.
Are juvenile fish less susceptible to a fish kill than adult fish, especially common carp?
99 percent of all fish kills are due to oxygen depletion. Larger fish are more sensitive to oxygen depletion, however, sensitivity is species dependent.
Obviously the carp being more tolerant of low D.O. vs. fish in the sunfish family, are even more tolerant as juveniles than adults.
